7-Keto-Dehydroepiandrosterone Powder Usage

7-keto-dehydroepiandrosterone (7-keto-DHEA), also known as 7-oxoanthrone, is a steroid produced by the metabolism of prohormones dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). 7-Keto-DHEA does not directly convert to testosterone or estrogen and has therefore been studied as a potentially more useful counterpart of DHEA. It is commonly used as the acetate prodrug 7-keto-DHEA acetate.

Although in vitro and animal studies have demonstrated the potential use of 7-keto-DHEA in humans, currently limited scientific evidence supports its use as a dieting aid, muscle growth agent, immune stimulant or for any other clinical use. A randomized, placebo-controlled study of dieting and exercising healthy individuals with excess weight found that 7-keto-DHEA significantly increased weight loss and fat loss. 7-Keto-DHEA is marketed as a dietary supplement, implying that it can accelerate weight loss, increase metabolism, enhance memory, or prevent age-related changes. When used in topical (skin lotion) products, 7-keto-DHEA causes long-term changes in testosterone, epitestosterone, estradiol, and other steroid hormone levels in vivo. Researchers worry that supplements may trigger aggressive testing of performance-enhancing drugs. 

Increasing metabolism/weight loss

7-Keto-DHEA shows the thermogenic activity recorded in rats. This is achieved by activating three thermogenic enzymes: glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, malic enzyme, and fatty acyl-CoA oxidase. In keeping with the biological definition of thermogenesis, all three of these enzyme activations drive the energy-generating substrate in the direction of less efficient ATP production relative to heat production. These enzymes also promote the use of fat stores in energy and calorie production. This is the basis for the ability of 7-keto-DHEA to increase heat production and accelerate the energy use of fat stores through this mechanism.

A 2007 study showed that administration of 7-keto-DHEA and calorie restriction diets in overweight adults effectively reversed the decline in resting metabolic rate (RMR), which is usually associated with dieting. 7-Keto-DHEA showed the ability to increase the RMR by 1.4% above the baseline level and showed a 5.4% increase in daily RMR when administered on a calorie-restricted diet.

7-Keto-DHEA achieves this thermogenic effect without the side effects of the cardiovascular or central nervous system. This side effect is usually associated with stimulant-related thermogenic agents.

Age-related Immune Enhancement

Although the aging process affects all aspects of the immune system, researchers have found abnormal cell- or T-cell-mediated immune functions in the elderly. The decline in T cell immune function is associated with increased susceptibility to infection.
